Same-sex marriage ruling draws a crowd

There were no confrontations as advocates on both sides of the issue milled about in McAllister Street in Civic Center Plaza at 9 a.m., an hour before the court was scheduled to release its ruling. Police were setting up crowd control barriers and stacks of signs leaned up against a light pole, waiting for hands to hoist them.

Dolores Caruthers, 54, and her girlfriend Laura Espinosa, 44, of Novato, got up at 4 a.m. to be in front of the court when the court heard oral arguments in the case in March. Today they slept in until 6 a.m., and when they arrived at 8 a.m. they were among the first people there.

"This day is important to us," Espinosa said. "I want equality."

Caruthers, holding a sign reading, " 'I do' support the freedom to marry," said that in some ways, the couple's future was in balance.

If the court strikes down Prop. 8, "we'll be officially engaged," Caruthers said.

Jorge Riley, 31, of Sacramento had to get up earlier to make the drive to San Francisco to hoist his sign reading, " 'Gay' = Pervert."

"I don't know how many times it's going to take for the judges to listen to the will of the people," Riley said.

To the streets we go

I probably have one of the most confusing work flows known to modern day photography.. For a large shoots like the ones that happened this weekend I randomly select images and then assign a routine for retouch. From there I will see what will work for the final images after I'm done editing down. All models were pretty much flawless where skin was concerned..so I can focus on other issues. I'll probably attack the full batch of images later on in the week, I'll have my work cut out for me .. no kidding..

haha.

so here are some quick ones.
First up is Derek, I've seen some great work of this guy. He's perfect for the studio setting, he can handle any light you throw at him. I wanted to take him to the streets for something different , a bit gritty. I'm glad it worked out well, it was winged, available light for most of the shoot. I have some indoor work with him also, will be getting to that soon.

For Cary ( guy with the chains) I just grabbed this image and played around with it a bit.
Leann , she had that classic face, so I'll be keeping things simple when working on her images.
Mallory my little 13 year old model has such an interesting face.. it can be young and sweet, but a times it's something totally unearthly ( I mean that in a good way).. Time to stop blabbing and head back to working on images.. then it's off to work.. Another trip shall be in the works for sure!

Everything is best kept simple

This trip has thought me allot, one can't try to overdo things. Sometimes it's best to keep things simple, take a breather every now and then...
Somethings were rushed , somethings were never done. But all in all I'm happy with the results.. whenever I edit down all 1000+ of them will be great.

Tonight I just had to go through the shoots that started out towards the afternoon . Two models will be etched in my mind until I'm finished with their images..

Mallroy From Ford models... 13 years old and taller than anyone I know and Derek Whom I shot the chance to shoot with through my photography friend Richard Petit.
I've never met such a dedicated 13 year old, and such a sweet guy on set before.
There's allot of images to go through so for now I'll call these my first proofs from the day...I just grabbed them off the randomly off their designated CF cards. Thankfully I can rest knowing that many of the wardrobe errors I made were corrected in later takes..... I have allot to learn about clothes..:(

a little simplicity before the crazy stuff/ crazy stuff will never happen

As I'm sitting here at this counter retouching at 3:35 am in the morning after shooting since 7am I ask the question.. what drives me to do all this? I enjoy it, I enjoy the creativity. But it seems lately no matter how hard I try to break out into something new it always blows up in my face... I've been trying my best as of lately to get into the high gloss fashion mind frame.. killer wardrobe , killer makeup artist and such... yet even with such a team I always find myself reverting to a simple approach to things..

I torture models.. and my crew

This particular one was after a Gigantic wave washed us out of the water.. fun.. salty and nasty..

where did the glory days go?

The classy days are gone here in America.. and to think that some of my favorite class acts came straight out of hollywood... I've always been inspired by the olden days... my Favorite photographers and my favorite movies come from such time periods
